Max Verstappen did not attend the media day at the Formula 1 event in Miami, as the birth of his first child is imminent. The four-time world champion was not scheduled to appear on Thursday.
According to his team, „Max will not be participating in the media day in Miami due to the expected birth of his child.“ They confirmed that all is well and that he plans to return to the track on Friday. The team has chosen not to provide further comments out of respect for the privacy of the 27-year-old and his family.
On Friday evening, at 18:30 German time, there will be the only free practice session. Four hours later, the starting grid for the sprint race on Saturday will be determined.
“Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the Way”
Verstappen has been in a relationship with Kelly Piquet since 2020. The 36-year-old is the granddaughter of Brazilian ex-world champion Nelson Piquet. She has a daughter from a previous relationship with former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat.
Last December, during the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen and Piquet announced her pregnancy, stating, „Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way. We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle,“ they wrote at the time.
