Union Berlin’s Diogo Leite Out for the Season Due to Laryngeal Fracture

Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite is out for the season following a laryngeal fracture sustained during a match against VfL Bochum. He will take a break from training for safety reasons.

Berlin (dpa) – Union Berlin has announced that professional player Diogo Leite will not return this season in the Bundesliga. The defender sustained an injury during the match against VfL Bochum, which ended in a 1-1 draw, when he was hit in the throat by a kick from Matus Bero in the second half.

Due to the severity of a laryngeal fracture—an injury to the cartilaginous structure of the larynx—Leite will take a break from both games and training for several weeks. This precaution is aimed at minimizing the risk of further impacts or injuries.

On Monday, Leite returned to Berlin from Bochum by train. By Tuesday afternoon, he was seen in good spirits watching his teammates train from the sidelines.

Leite was a key player for the team, and his absence will likely see veteran Kevin Vogt step in during upcoming matches. The next game for Union Berlin is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 PM at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei against Werder Bremen.
