Historic Victory for the Bundesliga Team
The Bundesliga women’s handball team, Thüringer HC, has achieved the greatest international success in its history. Under the guidance of coach Herbert Müller, the team triumphed in the final of the European League in Graz, defeating the favored Ikast Handbold from Denmark with a score of 34:32 (15:16).
Johanna Reichert, who scored 13 goals, once again emerged as the top scorer for THC. Following the match, she was also named the best player of the Final Four.
Reichert Takes Charge
After a convincing 35:29 semifinal victory against JDA Bourgogne Dijon, the Thüringer team entered the match with confidence. However, they quickly faced issues defensively, struggling against the Danish team’s fast breaks, which allowed Ikast to pull ahead to a 15:11 lead.
Despite this, THC fought back before halftime, thanks in part to the improving performance of goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle.
In the second half, Reichert took on more responsibility, leading her team to its first lead of the half at 25:24 in the 43rd minute. The Danish side attempted to respond but found it increasingly difficult against the passionately defending THC.
Thrilling Conclusion
As the match approached its end, nerves began to show for the Thüringer players. Ikast narrowed the gap to 32:33 in the 59th minute. However, Nathalie Hendrikse scored a crucial goal from a tight angle just 75 seconds before the final whistle, easing the tension for her team. The celebration that followed was boundless.
