SC Magdeburg Qualifies for Final Four in Champions League

SC Magdeburg secures a spot in the Final Four of the Champions League after a thrilling win over Hungarian champions Veszprém, following a tense finish to the match.

Thrilling Victory Over Veszprém

SC Magdeburg has joined Füchse Berlin in reaching the Final Four of the Champions League in Cologne. The team achieved a dramatic victory against Hungarian champions Veszprém, winning 28:27 (13:13), after the first leg had concluded in a 26:26 draw.

Felix Claar was the standout player for Magdeburg, contributing seven goals. With this win, both SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin, who qualified for the Final Four on Wednesday, maintain their aspirations for two titles this season, as both teams are also contending for the Bundesliga championship.

Game Highlights

As in the first leg, SC Magdeburg struggled defensively in the opening quarter, conceding goals from distance and through the center (6:10/15). However, they reduced the deficit during a power play and improved their defense, eventually leveling the score at 10:10 (20).

In a charged atmosphere, Veszprém once again pulled ahead by two goals, and the teams entered halftime tied.

In the second half, both teams continued to match each other closely, with Magdeburg missing two opportunities to take the lead (15:15/34). The SCM defense lacked the determination seen earlier, allowing Veszprém to extend their lead to three goals (17:20/39). The score of 22:26 for Veszprém appeared to be a decisive advantage, but Magdeburg rallied with a 5-0 run, taking their first lead at 27:26 (57).

With 14 seconds remaining and the score tied at 27:27, SCM called their final timeout. Gisli Kristjansson then scored the decisive goal just two seconds before the final buzzer, securing the thrilling victory.
