Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen made his return to the track in Miami for the only training session after the birth of his first daughter. Verstappen postponed his arrival for the Grand Prix in Florida to support his partner, Kelly Piquet, during the birth of their daughter Lily.
In the single training session ahead of the sprint qualifying, Verstappen was welcomed with laughter by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who referred to him as “Big Daddy.” Verstappen secured third place in the session, while the fastest time was set by championship leader Oscar Piastri in his McLaren, followed closely by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
Mixed Results for Other Drivers
Nico Hülkenberg, the only German driver in the field, could only manage 14th place in his Kick Sauber car. The session was interrupted by red flags following an accident involving Haas driver Oliver Bearman, and the training session was not resumed a few minutes before the end.
Curious Incident for Lando Norris
Lando Norris experienced a strange moment during the training when he discovered loose items in his McLaren. “You guys left tools in the cockpit,” he radioed to his team. During his subsequent pit stop, Norris, who finished in 12th place, threw a flashlight out of his car among other items.
