Following Bayer Leverkusen’s elimination from the Champions League against Bayern Munich, team captain Lukas Hradecky has issued a bold statement aimed at the record champions. „We may not yet be at Bayern’s level, but we are on our way there and intend to stay,“ said the goalkeeper after the 0-2 defeat (0-0) in the second leg of the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
In the first leg, the double winner had previously experienced a 0-3 loss in Munich. „Over two matches, Bayern were clearly the better team. This time, we were not competitive,“ Hradecky reflected, but he pledged that his team would fight back.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern currently holds an eight-point lead over Leverkusen with nine matchdays remaining in the season. „Recently, we saw that Bayern can lose unexpectedly,“ Hradecky noted. Last weekend, the record champions surprisingly lost 2-3 to relegation-threatened VfL Bochum. However, Leverkusen was unable to capitalize on this opportunity, suffering a 0-2 defeat to Werder Bremen.
