Harry Kane is eager to participate in the celebrations surrounding Bayern Munich’s potential title win, even though he is sidelined due to a yellow card suspension. The English striker, who is 31, is determined not to miss this significant moment as Bayern aims for their 34th championship.
On Saturday at 15:30 (Sky), Kane plans to be present at the Red Bull Arena as a spectator, cheering on his team against RB Leipzig. He is not hoping for a delay of the title celebration until the home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, stating, „We want to win the title as soon as possible.“ This desire stems from his aim to finally rid himself of the label of having never won a title.
Kane has faced disappointment in six finals in recent years, including two European Championship finals with England in 2021 and 2024, and the Champions League final in 2019 with Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool. Despite these setbacks, Kane remains optimistic about winning the Bundesliga title this season.
Although Bayern cannot officially receive the championship trophy in Leipzig, it will be a momentous occasion for both Kane, who hopes to lift the trophy for the first time, and Thomas Müller, who is set to bid farewell to the club after winning it for the 13th time. The presentation will be made by Manuel Neuer, who could return to goal after a two-month injury layoff.
Neuer had a „good training week,“ according to coach Vincent Kompany, but a decision regarding his participation will only be made after the final training session, prioritizing his and the team’s best interests.
Kompany is aware of the stakes for his fifth-placed RB Leipzig, who are still vying for a Champions League qualification spot. Following a disappointing 0-4 loss in Frankfurt, he anticipates a strong response from his team, stating, „Against Bayern, teams make radical decisions: either full throttle forward or focus on defense. I believe we will see Leipzig’s best version as opponents.“ He cautioned against getting too caught up in celebrations, reminding his squad to remain focused on the game.
In addition to Müller, Eric Dier is also on his farewell tour in Munich, as contract talks regarding his future have not progressed successfully. Dier, who joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham in early 2024, is expected to leave for AS Monaco on a free transfer, where he can secure a lucrative three-year deal.
Sporting director Christoph Freund commented on Dier’s situation, expressing hope that he can conclude his time at Bayern with a title win. Dier and Kane, longtime teammates from Tottenham and the national team, may share in the celebrations if they achieve that goal.
