During the title celebration, Bayern Munich board member Max Eberl sidestepped questions regarding a reported agreement with Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. When asked if the German national player had indeed reached an understanding with Bayern for a future move, Eberl replied after the 2-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, „I would rather not answer that with a yes or no, as today is about the championship party and having fun, not about the 2025/26 season.“ This event also commemorated Thomas Müller’s last home game for Bayern.
Intriguing Transfer Negotiations?
According to reports, Wirtz has assured the Bundesliga record champions that he would only consider a move to Munich and not to any other club. He is currently under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2027. The Bild newspaper suggests Bayern is contemplating a bid of 100 million euros for the offensive star, although Leverkusen is reportedly seeking 150 million euros.
Eberl mentioned that during his 15 months at Bayern, he has frequently heard about fixed deals and thus preferred not to comment. „We are observing what happens, what can be realized for the new season, and then we will see,“ he stated.
When asked if Wirtz could become a new character leader for Bayern following Müller’s departure, the sports director responded, „I don’t know if players who are not currently at FC Bayern will be character leaders in the future.“
Kompany: Confidence for the Upcoming Season
Overall, Bayern feels well-prepared for the future following their 34th championship victory. Coach Vincent Kompany expressed optimism about the next season, stating, „The feeling that we can be successful next season is there.“ In his first year in Munich, he secured the championship title, and he appeared relaxed. „Even when there were setbacks, we showed we can keep going. That gives me confidence for the new season.“
On Saturday evening, a celebration was held at Allianz Arena, both to properly farewell Müller in his last home game as a Bayern player and to celebrate the return of the championship trophy from Leverkusen.
National player Jamal Musiala, who was absent due to injury, remained optimistic about the upcoming season: „There are no words to describe the joy he brings us,“ he said, referring to the team’s spirit. „We will enjoy this moment now, but we want to continue this fun and motivation that we have now.“
