Oscar Piastri Shows Off Griddy Dance After Miami F1 Victory

Oscar Piastri performs the Griddy dance after winning the Formula 1 race in Miami, fulfilling a bet with NFL star Justin Jefferson.

Fans may not see Oscar Piastri perform the Griddy dance again anytime soon. Following his impressive Formula 1 victory in Miami, the Australian championship leader treated viewers to a brief dance performance, which some might describe as less than graceful. Nevertheless, a bet is a bet.

Piastri admitted with a smile that he hadn’t practiced the Griddy since qualifying, thinking it wouldn’t be necessary. “That was my first attempt at doing the Griddy live on worldwide television. I honored the bet, but that’s the only time you’ll see me do it,” he stated.

Piastri’s “Dumb” Bet

The Griddy touchdown celebration was popularized by NFL star Justin Jefferson from the Minnesota Vikings. Before the Grand Prix in Florida, Piastri made a “dumb” bet with Jefferson, promising to perform the Griddy if he won the race.

Despite qualifying in fourth place, Piastri managed to fulfill his bet. He now leads the championship by 16 points, with his teammate Lando Norris trailing behind.

A Brief Griddy Break

After securing his third consecutive Formula 1 victory, Piastri first embraced his girlfriend Lily before attempting the dance. The Griddy involves a series of shuffling steps while swinging the arms, mimicking a fun, relaxed style.

Jefferson had encouraged Piastri, saying, “No one has done this in motorsport before. You’ll be the first.” For now, it seems he will also be the only Formula 1 driver to attempt such a celebration.
