Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer undertook an extra training session on Easter Monday at FC Bayern. The 39-year-old player trained individually at the Säbener Straße along with defender Dayot Upamecano, who is recovering from a knee issue, and backup keeper Daniel Peretz.
This session marks another step for Neuer in his recovery process. The 2014 World Cup champion suffered a muscle tear in his right calf during the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Bayer Leverkusen, which ended with a 3-0 victory for Bayern in early March. Following the injury, Neuer had to pause training due to a reaction in his calf.
Since Neuer’s injury, he has been replaced by winter signing Jonas Urbig, aged 21. Bayern’s coach, Vincent Kompany, has refrained from making predictions about when Neuer might return. After Bayern’s 4-0 win against 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday, Kompany granted his team two days off.
With four matchdays remaining in the season, Bayern Munich leads the Bundesliga table, holding an eight-point advantage over defending champions Bayer Leverkusen.
