Bayer Leverkusen, the German football champions, will be without defender Mario Hermoso for the rest of the season. The 29-year-old Spanish player underwent successful surgery in Madrid, as confirmed by the club. Hermoso sustained a tendon injury in his chest during the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 match against Bayern Munich, which ended in a 0-2 defeat.
According to Bayer Leverkusen, Hermoso will begin his rehabilitation in Leverkusen. The defender joined the team on loan from AS Roma earlier this year, and this loan agreement is set to conclude on June 30. During his time with Leverkusen, he participated in four Bundesliga matches and played in both Champions League games against Bayern Munich.
